Roll back the red carpet, please - Prologue

It is rather unfortunate that I happen to belong to the 18-35 age bracket, which bears the label of 'youth' as accorded by the media with an increasing intensity especially in the build-up to the general elections. Yes, it is indeed unfortunate, and I have good reason to believe so. We have so much going for us, not least having the luxury of living in a day and age when almost everything is, at the risk of sounding corny, just a click away. We should be grateful - but we are anything but it.

Here's the part where I exemplify my generation - I self-indulge. Back in Sept-Oct last year, I had to prepare a report for a subject called Presentation and Communication Techniques (PCT). Since the other members of my group were least bothered, its burden was on my frail shoulders. The topic I chose - 'Disjoint: a nihilistic view of the youth of today'; it was divided into 5 segments which had, like the topic exaggerated, very few elements in common.

Now's the part where I show more maturity than my average peer - I exhibit humility. Back then, I was guilty of procrastination and came up with a topic that was closest to my heart but one which I could pass off as reasonable with minimal research and effort. The fact, though, is the themes are closer to my heart than ever before. Now that the constraints are not in place anymore, it's time for a fresh series.
